The Nigerian sustained a serious knee problem 12 months ago and made his long-awaited return against Sunderland last month.

David Moyes brought him on for the last few minutes of the Merseyside derby defeat to Liverpool on Saturday, and Anichebe says the routine of being involved in a matchday again is taking some getting used to.

“It felt really strange, coming to the game and seeing my shirt up in the dressing room – because normally I’m coming to the game to say good luck to the rest of the boys,” he told the club’s official website.

“Seeing my shirt there, and seeing my boots there, it was strange. It was strange going to warm-up before the game.

really well

Everton host Chelsea at Goodison Park on Wednesday and Anichebe is aware of the magnitude of the match.

“It’s a massive game,” he added. “Chelsea are doing really well at the moment. Didier Drogba is doing really well at the moment too – but we’re doing really well at the moment as well.

“Even though we got beaten at the weekend against Liverpool – that was a really tough game but we were quite unlucky not to get anything out of it.”
