Benjani joins Sunderland

The Zimbabwean international, 31, joins the Black Cats on loan until the end of the season.

Benjani is Sunderland’s third acquisition in the January transfer window following the signing of defenders Matthew Kilgallon from Sheffield United and Alan Hutton from Tottenham Hotspur and the 11th signing to arrive on Wearside under the reign of Steve Bruce.

Bruce said: “He’s a big, strong, powerful centre forward and one we’ve been tracking for a long time.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to bring him to the club. He’ll bring another dimension to our striking options and will be a great addition to the squad.”
