Coyle saw his side take the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Chung-Yong Lee’s fifth goal of the season.

Lee took advantage of a superb ball from Kevin Davies and clipped in a shot that hit the underside of the bar. Although Michael Duff thumped it clear, referee Martin Atkinson awarded the goal with the ball having clearly crossed the line.

Burnley’s hopes were not helped by the fact they lost two players to injury, with Graham Alexander and Chris McCann both coming off.

Bolton’s first clean sheet of the season was enough for them to leapfrog their neighbours who dropped into the relegation zone.
