The Brazilian full-back posed for photos and signed autographs after a group of youngsters were welcomed into the club’s Shankly suite to watch a film aimed at helping to promote racial harmony through sport. The visit was part of this year’s Premier League Places for Players initiative

Lenny Henry’s anti-racism film ‘Colour Blind’ forms an integral part of the Anthony Walker Foundation’s education and training workshops and was inspired by the tragic murder of the teenager back in 2005.

Following the screening, Anthony’s mother, Gee, took to the stage to reiterate the message she hopes the Foundation can spread.

She said: “With the help of clubs like you we are able to promote these school workshops and hopefully take it to a wider audience.

“Having such a big club like Liverpool involved is fantastic and we couldn’t have got by without you, so we are very grateful for that.

“The film is doing extremely well and is making an impact upon people’s lives. It has a good sense of humour but also sends out a powerful message.

“The Foundation has had some more funding and this is why we have been able to launch the programme. We hope to get it into schools across the country. We believe we have to educate our children and we hope that a change in attitudes can happen. That’s exactly why we launched the programme.”

Aurelio was also keen to stress the importance of the project and feels Liverpool are starting to play a crucial role in the local community.

“It’s great to support the Foundation and the type of work they are trying to achieve,” he said. “A great anti-racism film was shown and it had a strong message which is important for youngsters to hear.

“I think the workshops are a great idea and I hope that it continues to grow. It’s important the club is involved in community events and as a player I think it is good that we can support the local area. I’m more than happy to come along and lend my support too.”
