The striker scored the Hammers’ second goal in their 3-0 win over fellow strugglers Hull City at the weekend as they made it back-to-back victories in the Barclays Premier League.

England international Cole, whose season has been interupted with injuries, has scored nine goals in his 18 appearances for the Hammers in the top-flight this term.

And Gold, who bought the Hammers with David Sullivan in January, was delighted with the efforts of Cole and his team-mates.

absolutely everything

He said: “Things are turning around on the pitch. Getting two wins is fantastic and we are starting to get out of this mess.

“If you look at Carlton Cole, after the Hull game I thought he was going to die. He could barely breathe. He had given absolutely everything because he was fit but not match fit.

“But when he was called on, he found the energy and he went for it despite being barely able to stand up.

“That is what I want to see. He had given 100 per cent so once you know the players are out there giving 100 per cent, it gives you the hope that everything is going to be OK. I have not seen that before.

“I am having sleepless nights about relegation and now I know the players feel the same way.”

Cole and West Ham return to action on Tuesday evening when they travel to take on Barclays Premier League title hopefuls Manchester United.
