Throughout the year the Latics players are busy in the community doing all manner of visits. Perhaps the strangest though was the recent fishing trip undertaken by Victor Moses and Scott Sinclair as part of this year’s Premier League Places for Players initiative.
The pair visited the Wigan Athletic Community Trust Kickz project at Cast North West Fisheries for a spot of fishing. Kickz is a nationwide project that targets some of the most disadvantaged areas in the country.
Participants get the chance to take part in three activities per week – two football and a third chosen by the participants. For Latics Kickz project this means fishing.
great success
A spot of fishing was just the tonic after a tough training session and the players took their positions on their ‘pegs’ (a technical term). Fishing requires patience but it only took half an hour for both Moses and Sinclair to land a ‘big one’, under the expert guidance of Clint Close and Callum Woosey, two Kickz Project participants.
The day finished with a presentation of prizes kindly donated by event sponsor Grandeslam fishing tackle. Sadly there were no prizes for Moses and Sinclair but they were impressed by the level of dedication shown by the young participants.
The event was a great success due largely to the commitment of the young people involved, the great organisation and facilities laid on by Cast North West plus Moses and Sinclair for fronting up and not being afraid to get their hands dirty.
