The Scot is currently recovering from a fractured arm he sustained over the summer, shortly after undergoing surgery to help aid his rehabilitation from a similar problem.

The injury has prevented Gordon from starting the new Barclays Premier League season in the Sunderland first team and has forced him to miss Scotland’s Euro 2012 qualifying openers.

He is, however, closing on a comeback and believes he can see light at the end of the tunnel.

The former Hearts shot-stopper is wary of rushing back too soon and causing himself further damage, but admits he is itching to get back out on the field.

He sees no reason why, provided everything goes to plan, he cannot be back in contention for club and country in a little over three weeks.

“I’ve been working in the gym and I hope to have done a bit of handling by the end of this week,” Gordon said.

“I should soon be diving and it’s a case of building it up. All being well, I’ll be ready to start playing by the end of this month.”
