in Premier League News

There are four Barclays Premier League matches on Tuesday night including two which could have a major impact on the survival struggle.

Bottom club Portsmouth host relegation rivals West Ham United and new Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has a swift reunion with his former club Burnley.

Fulham go to Tottenham Hotspur for a London derby while Liverpool aim to boost their push for a Champions League place as they travel to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Portsmouth v West Ham

Portsmouth are buoyed by their FA Cup win over Sunderland which earned a pulsating fifth round visit to local rivals Southampton.

Pompey have won two of their last three at home while the Hammers have lost three out of four on the road.

Avram Grant’s men will be looking to close to within two points of the east London side who will aim to stretch their advantage to eight points in a match which will have a vital bearing on the basement battle.

The Hammers have won their last two encounters with the south coast strugglers who have lost three of their last four matches.

West Ham have now won away from home since the opening day of the season, taking just four points from a possible 30 on the road since then.

Wolves v Liverpool

Wolves will be bidding to avoid a hat-trick of home defeats in the Barclays Premier League, although they twice came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace in Saturday’s FA Cup tie.

Liverpool are third in the current form table after taking 10 points from a possible 12 and have the chance to overtake fourth-placed Tottenham if Harry Redknapp’s side slip up against Fulham.

The Merseysiders have not won in their last five visits to Molineux, drawing two. Wolves have lost seven of their last 10 Barclays Premier League matches.

Bolton v Burnley

By a quirk of fate, Owen Coyle’s first home Barclays Premier League match as manager of Bolton is against the club he recently left.

Burnley, who suffered an FA Cup shock defeat at Reading on Saturday, have yet to win on their travels, picking up just one point in 11 matches away from Turf Moor.

The Trotters have taken five points from a possible 12 at the Reebok – and just 10 from 11 home matches all season.

They have won just one of their last 11 but have the chance to leapfrog their Lancashire rivals with a victory at the Reebok. The Clarets have gone 10 without a win.

Four of the last five meetings between the clubs have ended all-square.

Spurs v Fulham

With Manchester City on Carling Cup semi-final duty on Wednesday, Tottenham have the chance to consolidate fourth place. Harry Redknapp’s men have taken seven points from their last three home fixtures.

However they have failed to find the net in three of their last four outings although their recent defeat at Liverpool was the first time they had conceded in six matches.

The Cottagers have lost their last three Barclays Premier League away matches and have not won on the road since the opening day of the season although they did enjoy a 3-1 FA Cup success at Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

They have managed just seven points and 11 goals on their travels and have only ever won twice at White Hart Lane – but they have lost only one of their last seven meetings with Spurs.
