Burnley aim to take a big stride towards safety as they host Stoke City in Wednesday’s solitary Barclays Premier League fixture.
Brian Laws’ side are second from bottom and, with a poor record away from Turf Moor, they need to make home advantage count in their survival struggle.
However the Potters have lost only once in the league in 2010 and know that victory will lift them to within a point of Fulham in 10th place.
A win would take Stoke to 37 points and put them within touching distance of safety as manager Tony Pulis strives to ensure his side do not get sucked into the relegation battle.
good account
Burnley are bottom of the current form table after losing their last four matches.
The Clarets have won just one of their last 17 Barclays Premier League fixtures but gave a good account of themselves in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.
Stoke have lost their last two, going down 2-0 at Chelsea in the FA Cup on Saturday and 1-3 at home to Arsenal the previous week. Prior to that, they had strung together an 11-match unbeaten run in all competitions.
Burnley are strong at Turf Moor having lost just three of their 13 fixtures in front of their own fans. However two of those defeats have come in their last three home fixtures.
The Potters are unbeaten in their last three league matches on the road, taking five points from a possible nine.
