The south coast club are five points adrift at the foot of the table but have matches in hand on teams around them.

Saturday’s FA Cup fourth round win over Barclays Premier League rivals Sunderland will have boosted spirits at Fratton Park.

And South African midfielder Mokoena is in no doubt Pompey have the talent to launch an unbeaten run and move out of the drop zone.

Our strength

“I still have a 110 per cent belief that we can get out of trouble,” he said.

“It’s going to be very difficult and we have a mountain to climb. But we still have good players and if we give our best then our belief will hold us in good stead.

“My belief has never wavered. Our strength is as a team and we are prepared to face the challenges ahead.

“It’s important for us to give the supporters something to believe in, but the fans, players and management staff all want the same thing. We’re in this together and we’ll get out of it together.”
