Zamora fired Fulham to a 2-1 Europa League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday night after unleashing a stunning 63rd-minute winner at Craven Cottage.

His 14th goal in 31 starts was accompanied by another commanding all-round display as Fulham’s target man which also saw him set up the opener for Zoltan Gera.

England’s next match is against Egypt on 3rd March and Murphy, who won nine caps between 2001-03, believes Zamora could be involved.

sky high

“You can see his confidence is sky high. He just gets better each month,” said the Fulham captain.

“Each month we’re talking about him, his goalscoring and his all-round game. Every time I play with him he gets better and better.

“If he carries on the way he is, he’s got to have a shout of the England squad.”

Zamora struggled for goals earlier in the season but since netting against Sunderland on 6th December he has found the net with regularity as Fulham compete on three fronts.
