The Gunners have lacked a player to hold the ball up since Robin van Persie and Bendtner were injured in the back end of last year, with their frontline looking decidedly diminutive against the Barclays Premier League’s strapping defences.
Bendtner, though, is expected to return after a groin problem in the coming days.
signing anybody
Wenger was asked on Friday whether he will be signing a physically imposing striker, and he replied: “I have just come in from a training session where Bendtner looked exactly like the guy you describe.
“At the moment we are not on the verge of signing anybody.
“It is very difficult in January to find players who are available for the Champions League, who are just good enough to play for Arsenal and at the right price. You never know, but at the moment it is unlikely that we will sign a striker.”
Arsenal are the top scorers in the Barclays Premier League with 59 goals and have coped well without van Persie and Bendtner.
