The Frenchman produced arguably his best display of the season in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium.

He supplied the pass of the day to set up Cesc Fabregas for the opening goal and turned in a vibrant performance in a more central position than he has been accustomed too since arriving at Arsenal in 2008.

“He is the same as Cesc, 22-years-old, so very young,” Wenger said.

“But he has adapted very quickly. He is a very intelligent boy, a quiet boy. He analyses what is happening on the pitch very quickly. He has good technical potential.

“He is very versatile too. He can play defensive midfield, attacking midfield and on the flanks. We have a few players like that and I love that.”

got stronger

The former Marseille youngster missed the early part of the campaign after breaking his leg in pre-season training. Despite producing tidy displays this season, his 90 minutes against Burnley exhibited more of a cutting edge than in previous matches

“Nasri started with a fibula fracture at the start of the season and after two months it took him a while to get back to his best. But in the last few weeks he has got stronger and more confidence,” Wenger said.

Despite thriving in a central position against Burnley due to Alex Song’s suspension and Aaron Ramsey’s injury, Wenger believes he can still be an asset on the flanks.

“If you ask any player where he wants to play, they will say in the middle,” Wenger added.

“He is happy to play there but I believe with the pace he has he can play on the flanks as well.”
